Christmas Q&A for Clients

I’m worried about being able to manage at Christmas….

What do I need to do?

You will be required to have a current referral to access Shrewsbury Foodbank and the process will be exactly the same as using Shrewsbury Foodbank throughout the year. The one off Christmas Treat Bag will be part of your December collection.

What information will I need to give?

You will be required to give your name, address, email and confirm the mobile number that has been used for your referral. We will also require the names and dates of birth of the people that permanently live in your household. You will also need to show the text message you receive from us when you are referred.

What will be in the Treat bag?

  • Mince Pies

  • Box of chocolates

  • Box of biscuits

  • Large tub of sweets or chocolate

  • Pack Christmas cake

  • Bottle coke/lemonade/non-alcoholic fizzy

  • Tub hot chocolate

  • Packet marshmallows

  • Satsumas / tangerines

  • £10 Asda voucher

What else will i receive?

If you have children under the age of 18 permanently living in your household, you can pick from a selection of gifts from the table. We are only able to provide gifts for those children registered with Shrewsbury Fooodbank.

You can take one of each of the following;

  • A book (children up to aged 12)

  • Stationery (age appropriate)

  • One gift (age appropriate)

  • Selection box

Will the food be in date?

All the food you receive will be dated after 24th December. Vegetables and fruit you purchase with the voucher, will need to be washed. Please read and follow all storage and cooking instructions on any food items you receive or purchase.

I have guests at Christmas. Will they know the food is from a foodbank?

No. The Christmas food and gifts you receive at Christmas in the Christmas treat bag will not be identifiable as foodbank food. It will not have dates on like our regular food. All the food will be in date.

When do I get my parcel?

You will receive a treat bag in December alongside your foodbank parcel. One treat bag will be given to you within that period.

Where do I get my parcel from?

The collection location is foodbank PLUS, Barnabas Church Centre, Longden Coleham, SY37DN.

I have special dietary requirements

We are able to cater for diets such as gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and dairy free in our regular food parcels. Please discuss any dietary requirements with the interviewer when you come and collect your food parcel. The Christmas treat bag will not cater for dietary requirements as they are pre-packed. Please talk to the interviewer regarding this. Please check all the ingredients before consumption.

How big is the Treat bag?

It is one medium sized pre-packed bag for life.
